A Gruta Progressiva v1
Under: Portfolio
This site was made for a very special reason: to keep in touch with a childhood friend of mine. We shared a passion for progressive rock music (that is still very strong for both of us today) and wanted to be involved in a project together, something that would make the distance between us easier to bear. We decided to index information about bands, their countries, their discography, etc. Compared to similar sites at the time, our site looked pretty impressive. The site became a lab in which I would try using new things, producing graphics, styling, etc. I learned a lot of Fireworks and Dreamweaver, using Photophop sparingly because I thought its interface was utterly boring. In fact it wasn’t until Photoshop hit its 6th version that I felt the urge to move from Fireworks to Photoshop.
It was the first time I had a domain and a server, and possibilities seemed endless. It was a very intense learning period and the learning curve was steep, but I was very excited. However there was a problem: the site maintenance required a lot of patience and time, since I had to rebuild the whole directory from scratch every time there was an update. I had to find another solution… which eventually came with a dynamic website in PHP.
